"Keeping on Track" with VEGA Energizing Smoothies

Have you ever tried a new product and been so surprised about the quality....for the price?

That's how I felt last year when I made my first VEGA Energizing smoothie.
Since last Sunday, I've been committed to eating better and losing about 20 lbs. that snuck back onto my hips and waist over this past winter.  See more here - "Getting Back On Track"

For even more convenience
make up a few batches and freeze them.
Then they are literally grab n go!

Picked out my 'Keeping On Track" goal pants to fit into by July:

My alarm goes off 5 days a week about 4:30 am. Well, Floydy wakes us up at 4:15 by clawing the sheets
and 'MEOWING'!!
It's a whole system he and the other cat have worked out to get fed when the birds outside wake up.
Anyway.
At 5am, when I'm trying to get out the door to work, I'm not in the mood to take 6 or 7 different items out of the freezer to make a good smoothie for breakfast.  I just want to grab and go.  VEGA helps me make this happen and still get a great tasting drink with tons of nutrition.

VEGA has so much to brag about and with good reason.  Their plant based products are so delicious and even more importantly, full of nutrition, easy to prepare and reasonably priced.
Check out just some of the response to VEGA products, more info at their site:

Getting Away

We're taking a few days away from the city rush and traffic to get some fresh air
(and pollen unfortunately)

I started out the day with my favorite smoothie since I wasn't leaving before sunrise
like most mornings:

Frozen Bananas
Frozen Pineapple
Almond Milk
Flax Meal
Liquid Vanilla Stevia (NuNaturals of course)
Cinnamon
and a big Mason Jar to pour it all into

So nice to have time in the morning to enjoy
heathy fresh ingredients.....

I found a couple real bargains yesterday to
take along too:

$10 for the jacket and $5 for the
t-shirt?  Can't beat that..........................
It's going to be one of those chilly morning and hot afternoon weekends so I need a little of everything to have on hand to wear.  These should work out well, especially for the price!
Definitely a shopping find!
Bringing along this bargain too:
This Coconut Oil Hair Treatment from Tropical Traditions is awesome.
I got the Lavender scented and it's wonderful to rub on your skin before bed.

Smells so light and relaxing!
I know, it's supposed to be for hair, but hey, if it works?
Pink Floydy will have the weekend off as well....
 He'll be doing mostly this....................
                                                                                         A little bird watching..........
Then protecting the house and watching for that big guy who comes over with food
when Mommy is gone...
Spicy Pepperoni, Zucchini, Chicken, and Fra Diavolo sauce.
Coming up soon on Canned Time
I have a great simple dinner recipe to post when
I get back in the kitchen....
Here's a sneak peak:

Hey the Holiday LEDS string light Giveaway is still going strong while I'm gone.
Be sure to enter and leave your comments before Monday night!

Thanks for all the entries, Be Safe!

Mocha Fudge Smoothie

I needed to use up some of the fudge that I made recently, http://cannedtime.blogspot.com/2011/11/almond-butter-mocha-fudge.html, I have way too much sweet stuff in the house right now and have neglected my green smoothie routine too much lately.  So I tried to justify making a smoothie out of some healthy fudge...........voila..........Mocha Smoothie:

Not too exciting but it allowed me to add some good stuff in with the fudge to help my digestion at least.

Ingredients:

4 - 5 small cubes of Almond Butter Mocha Fudge
1 Oz. Almond Milk or other non dairy milk
1 Tbs. Chocolate Hemp Protein powder
3 soaked Dates
1 frozen banana
2 Tbs. ground flax seed
1/2 cup or so of ice

Mix in blender until smooth.

Homemade Soy Milk and Flour

This Soy Milk was relatively easy to make and a huge savings over store bought.  The process is pictured here.  I purchased a 2 lbs. bag of dried soybeans, used 1 lbs. for my first batch since I didn't know how much milk it was going to make and I'd be the one drinking it for the next week.  The 1 lbs of beans produced just under a gallon of Soy Milk.  The 2 lbs bag only cost $1 so I got a gallon of milk for about .50 cents with the flavorings.  I usually spend about $2.50 per quart in the store for boxed Soy Milk so this was definitely a good buy.

The added bonus is that the bean pulp left over can be made into Soy Flour which is also pricey in the stores.  If you have a dehydrator, spread the pulp on the trays and dry it out, then grind it fine in a food processor to make the flour.  What a savings!
I would add at least 1 cup of sugar/sweetener to the milk as it cooks, vanilla or orange, chocolate could also be added at this stage.  Keep milk for 7 -8 days in a sealed container in the fridge.
Dried Soy Beans

Soak Soy Beans for 12+ hours covered in water

Drain water off of soaked beans

Add 3 cups of water to each 1 cup of beans and blend until smooth, 30 seconds or so

Pour mixture through cheese cloth into large pot, squeeze out bean ball to remove most of the milk into the pot

Heat soy milk over medium heat for 20-30 minutes stirring frequently

Skim off any foam that forms from bean liquid and discard

Dehydrated Orange Slices

Add sugar, vanilla, orange, cinnamon or other flavorings to milk as it simmers
