Valentine's Day Chocolate Hearts

Thanks to Averie at Love Veggies and Yoga  I was able to pick up these great molds at Target in their dollar bins.  Silicone molds for only $1 per pair of molds, awesome.  Had to try them out with some of my homemade chocolate.......

Target store's silicone candy / ice tray molds

I make chocolate from scratch (I melt down unsweetened chocolate and add sweetener and mix ins) a couple times a month and really enjoy being able to control the sweetness and add in some of my favorite nuts, fruit, salt, spices, etc.
But I've never used it to make molded candy so this was an experiment for me.

I melt down my chocolate in a 1 quart Mason jar that sits inside a bowl of warm water.  Once the chocolate is melted, I add a little oil, this time I used Coconut and then some sweetener.  Today I kept it simple and just added a few drops of Vanilla Stevia.
Once the chocolate was ready, I dusted the molds with Organic Cocoa Powder to add some flavor.
Once they were all filled I popped them in the freezer for about 15 minutes and voila:

The chocolate popped out of the awesome molds with no problems.  They even cleaned up easily ready for the next project!
I picked up some colored foil from Michael's Crafts today to try to fancy up my first candy and wrapped them up for storage.

Sugar Free and pretty healthy to boot!

I keep them in the fridge so they're cold and will last longer........especially if I'm not seeing them on the counter!
So pretty pleased with these $1 molds from Target..........thanks Averie for the ideas again.....

  2. Angela they turned out so wonderfully and thanks for linking me up and glad you took the idea and ran with it...faster than I did even :) My molds still sit untouched. For now.

A woman wrote to me after I posted this and said she (independent of my post) bought the molds, made chocolate in them coincidentally, but hers tasted really plastic-ey and chemically due to leaching she felt. Glad to hear you had none of that.

    Your chocolates look great!

  3. Nope didn't have any taste other than yummy Chocolate, thank goodness. I used them for ice as well and didn't have any rubber taste so I think they're fine. Thanks again.

  4. Thanks so much for sharing your creative recipes at Slightly Indulgent Tuesday. I also appreciate you putting my button in your side bar. Part of the linking up guidelines state that you need to link each post you share to the weekly link-up event. I didn't see a link back - do you mind adding one to the posts you shared? If you have any questions about this please let me know.

Thanks again for being a part of SIT! Can't wait to see your yummy dishes next week!

    Hugs,
    Amy
