I got a deal at the grocery store today on some FRESH PINEAPPLE that was just past it's date to sell so it was 50% or more marked down. I got ahead of the spoiling by cutting it up. Froze a little for smoothies. Cut the rest up and spread it out on my dehydrator. Not only does it make for a healthy snack....helps with my Arthritis pain and............makes the house smell fantastic while it's drying too! Be sure to check out some of the health benefits of the powerful fruit at the end of the post........
Got 4 fresh Pineapples for just $1.50 each!
Bagged up some of the pieces to freeze for smoothies
Makes kind of a mess to cut them all up but the taste is much worth the 30 minutes to slice and bag.
NESCO 4 Shelf Dehydrator
I had enough to fill 4 dehydrator shelves plus 3 baggies for freezing / smoothies
These are Pineapple rings I dehydrated last month from a can. Took about 18 hours at 115degrees.
Course Sea Salt adds a unique bite to the sweet
I made the Chocolate thick to give the slice more contrast in flavors
In addition to packing vitamins and minerals that your body needs daily, pineapples are a storehouse for bromelain. This plant enzyme or phytochemical appears to ease joint inflammation and might help decrease the amount of pain that you experience from arthritis. Along with its sweet goodness, the pineapple is a go-to fruit that may help you maintain your mobility in spite of arthritis. Consult your doctor before using pineapple in any form to treat a health condition.
